BYD Great Han Revealed: A 1,000 km Range Luxury EV Sedan to Rival Tesla and Lucid

BYD is preparing to disrupt the luxury electric vehicle market with the BYD Great Han, a full-size flagship sedan boasting a CLTC driving range of over 1,000 kilometers (621 miles). Recent filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveal that the new D-segment EV will outsize competitors like the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air. The vehicle serves as the first D-segment flagship sedan in BYD’s Dynasty lineup, which already includes the Han, Song, Tang, and Yuan models.

Measuring 5,256 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,510 mm in height with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, the BYD Great Han matches the footprint of a long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class. The vehicle will be available in two powertrain configurations. The single-motor variant features a rear-mounted 370 kW (496 hp) electric motor, while the dual-motor version adds a 200 kW (268 hp) front motor for a combined output of 570 kW (764 hp).

Powering the sedan is BYD’s next-generation blade battery 2.0, which supports a 5-minute Flash Charging system to achieve its 1,008 km (626 miles) maximum range. The exterior design incorporates roof-mounted LiDAR for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), while the chassis utilizes a dual-chamber air suspension for premium ride quality. The interior is described as an over-the-top luxury experience, aligning with its flagship status.

Expected to launch in Q3 2026, the BYD Great Han joins the market as a sibling to the three-row Great Tang SUV. Following the Great Tang's massive success - securing over 100,000 preorders since its April debut - industry expectations place the sedan's starting price near the SUV's 250,000 yuan ($37,000) mark.

The Pricing Threat to Western Luxury EVs

At an estimated $37,000, the BYD Great Han presents a severe pricing challenge to Western automakers. Offering Mercedes S-Class dimensions, 764 horsepower, and a 1,000 km range at a fraction of the cost of a Lucid Air or Tesla Model S highlights the growing cost-efficiency gap in global EV manufacturing.

If BYD successfully exports this model with its advanced blade battery 2.0 and LiDAR integration, legacy luxury brands will struggle to justify their six-figure price tags for comparable specifications. The sheer volume of preorders for its SUV sibling indicates that consumer demand for high-spec, aggressively priced Chinese EVs remains incredibly strong, signaling a tough road ahead for traditional luxury marques.
