BYD is aggressively targeting the European and UK markets with the launch of the Ti 7, a boxy seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV that significantly undercuts the Land Rover Defender PHEV. Starting at £47,995 ($65,000), the new flagship model combines high performance with an impressive electric-only range. The seven-seat arrangement was specifically designed to cater to European and UK buyers.
The Ti 7 is the first vehicle in the UK to feature BYD's DM-p (Dual Mode performance) powertrain. This Super Hybrid DM setup utilizes three electric motors paired with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine to deliver a combined 402 hp (408 PS). This allows the heavy SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds. Powering the electric side is a 35.6 kWh BYD Blade Battery, which provides a pure-electric driving range of up to 74 miles combined, or up to 102 miles in city driving conditions.
Available exclusively in the flagship Excellence AWD trim for the UK market, the Ti 7 features a rugged design reminiscent of the Toyota Land Cruiser. Inside, the cabin focuses on premium comfort with acoustic glass, standard leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated seats for both the front and outer second-row passengers. A built-in refrigerator and drinks warmer sits between the front seats.
Tech amenities include a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch driver display, and an 18-speaker sound system. The middle-row seats can be adjusted in four directions for added flexibility. With the second and third rows folded, the boot capacity expands to 1,830 liters.
The Ti 7 is now available to order in the UK. Customers can secure a pre-order with a £500 deposit, which BYD has promised to match. Customer deliveries are slated to begin in January 2027.
The Price War Reaches Luxury Off-Roaders
The pricing strategy for the BYD Ti 7 is a direct threat to established European luxury automakers. At £47,995, it is nearly £24,000 cheaper than the plug-in Defender 110, which starts at £71,840 and offers less than half the electric range (31.1 miles). By matching premium features like acoustic glass and built-in refrigeration with a high-capacity 35.6 kWh battery, BYD is proving it can compete on both value and technical specifications.
If the brand can overcome European brand loyalty, the Ti 7 could force legacy automakers to drastically rethink their PHEV pricing structures. The inclusion of the DM-p powertrain also signals that BYD is no longer just competing on price, but is actively pushing performance metrics that rival established off-road icons.
