2026 Skoda Peaq Revealed: A Massive 373-Mile Electric SUV Built for Maximum Space

2026 Skoda Peaq Revealed: A Massive 373-Mile Electric SUV Built for Maximum Space

Skoda is officially entering the three-row electric SUV segment with the 2026 Skoda Peaq, a massive family hauler designed to maximize interior space on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform. Measuring 4,874 millimeters (almost 192 inches) in length, it is now the longest model in the Czech automaker's lineup. The vehicle is aimed directly at buyers who need a roomier alternative to traditional combustion models while taking advantage of the packaging benefits inherent to electric architectures.

By utilizing a dedicated EV platform, engineers stretched the wheelbase to 2,965 mm (116.7 inches) between the axles, leaving substantial room for rear passengers. The five-seat configuration offers the largest cargo area of any Skoda vehicle, delivering an enormous 1,010 liters (35.6 cubic feet) of space. Even when fully loaded with passengers, the three-row model still accommodates 299 liters (10.5 cubic feet) without folding any seats. Additionally, a 37-liter (1.3 cubic feet) front trunk provides dedicated storage for smaller items like charging cables.

New Tech and Skoda Firsts

The Skoda Peaq introduces a host of design and technology firsts for the brand, positioning it as a direct competitor to the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9. It is the first model from Mladá Boleslav to feature flush door handles, improving aerodynamic efficiency. The exterior also debuts a massive electrochromic roof spanning 2.12 square meters (22.8 square feet), which features nine switchable segments to control cabin lighting. In another practical first, windshield washers are integrated directly into the wiper blades, ensuring more efficient use of washer fluid.

Inside the cabin, the most prominent upgrade is the introduction of a new Android-based infotainment system, anchored by a 13.6-inch vertical touchscreen that protrudes from the dashboard. While it misses out on the customizable screen-equipped knobs found in the Superb and Kodiaq, it retains physical controls on the center console for temperature and fan speed. The driver is supported by a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, which can be optionally paired with a head-up display featuring augmented reality technology.

Buyers looking for a premium experience can opt for the Relax Package, which adds massaging and ventilated seats, electrically adjustable footrests, front cushions, a folding table, and a Sonos sound system. The cabin is further elevated by wood trim. On the outside, the "Modern Solid" design language offers 10 body colors and several aerodynamic wheel designs ranging from 19 to 21 inches.

Battery Range and Powertrain Specs

The electric SUV will be available with two battery options, offering gross capacities of 63 kWh and 91 kWh. The smaller 63 kWh pack delivers more than 286 miles (460 kilometers) of range on a single charge. The larger 91 kWh battery extends that figure to over 373 miles (600 kilometers). When connected to a DC fast charger, replenishing the battery from 10 to 80 percent takes approximately 28 minutes.

Performance varies across three distinct powertrain configurations. Single-motor, rear-wheel-drive variants are available with either 201 hp or 282 hp. The entry-level version is electronically limited to a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h). Upgrading to the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration unlocks 295 hp, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.7 seconds. Both the AWD model and the more powerful RWD version top out at 112 mph (180 km/h).

The Pragmatic Strategy Driving European Sales

The launch of the Skoda Peaq highlights a highly effective dual-path strategy within the Volkswagen Group. Rather than replacing the popular Kodiaq, the Peaq serves as a parallel EV alternative. This approach acknowledges that while the market is shifting toward electrification, a significant portion of consumers still demand combustion engines and plug-in hybrids. By offering both, Skoda avoids alienating its core customer base while capturing new EV adopters.

The numbers validate this pragmatic approach. In the first quarter of 2026, Skoda achieved a historic milestone by becoming Europe’s second-best-selling brand for the first time. The company delivered 222,500 vehicles across the 27 EU countries, alongside the UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. As the Peaq goes on sale in Europe later this year, joining the ID.7 and ID.7 Tourer on the MEB platform, it is positioned to further solidify Skoda's dominance by offering maximum utility without forcing a premature transition away from legacy powertrains.
