Streaming platforms are no longer satisfied with dominating your living room television; they want the endless scroll time you spend on your phone. Peacock is aggressively pivoting to mobile with a new TikTok-style vertical video feed, original microdramas, and AI-powered tools designed to keep users swiping. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the NBCUniversal-owned service is rolling out these features this month as part of a major push to increase app engagement and watch time.

Bringing the Bravoverse to Mobile

To anchor this new mobile experience, Peacock is launching Campus Confidential, its first original unscripted series designed specifically to be viewed on a phone held upright. The short-form show leans heavily into the signature soap opera drama that the Bravo network is known for. This initial rollout will feature standalone clips before expanding into a dedicated section called Your Bravoverse later this summer, which will function as a scrollable feed built entirely around Bravo personalities.

Because producing original vertical content takes time, Peacock is licensing existing microdramas from ReelShort, a platform that already specializes in the format, to populate the feed immediately. To guide viewers through this new interface, the app will feature an AI-powered version of longtime Bravo host Andy Cohen, who will introduce clips and navigate users through the content.

AI Conversion and Live Vertical Sports

To scale its vertical library rapidly, Peacock is deploying AI technology that automatically crops and converts existing horizontal TV footage into a vertical format. This automated pipeline opens the door for massive legacy hits like The Office and SNL to eventually populate the scrollable feed. The platform is also expanding this format to live broadcasting, with vertical sports streaming for the NBA and the FIFA World Cup currently in development.

E-commerce is another major pillar of this update. Peacock has launched Shop What Happens, a vertical live series that integrates click-to-buy capabilities directly into the viewing experience. This move aligns Peacock with a broader industry trend, as competitors like Disney+ and Netflix have already introduced their own dedicated vertical feeds to guide users straight into binge-watching sessions.

The Battle for the "In-Between" Moments

This aggressive push into vertical video highlights a fundamental shift in streaming strategy: the battle is no longer just about prime-time viewing, but about capturing the "in-between" moments that TikTok currently monopolizes. By using AI to slice legacy IP like The Office into bite-sized vertical clips, Peacock is essentially building a top-of-funnel marketing engine inside its own app. These micro-clips serve as highly engaging trailers designed to funnel users toward full-length episodes.

Furthermore, integrating live vertical sports and direct e-commerce fundamentally changes the utility of the Peacock app. It transitions the platform from a passive viewing destination into an active, interactive social feed. If the AI-driven cropping proves seamless, Peacock could successfully bridge the gap between short-form social media addiction and long-form premium subscription retention.
