WhatsApp is Finally Building a Dedicated Apple CarPlay App

For years, Apple CarPlay users have been limited to basic, fleeting notification pop-ups when receiving WhatsApp messages on the road. That frustration is finally ending, as Meta is actively testing a dedicated, fully functional WhatsApp application natively built for the CarPlay interface. This highly anticipated update aims to give drivers more control and context over their communications without compromising road safety.

Currently rolling out exclusively to iOS beta testers via TestFlight, as first noted by WABetaInfo, the new integration transforms how drivers interact with their chats. Instead of relying solely on Siri to read incoming texts, users can now launch a standalone app directly from the CarPlay dashboard. Safety remains the primary focus of this automotive UI overhaul. Upon opening the app, drivers are greeted with a streamlined chat list displaying conversations from the past 20 to 25 days. To prevent distracted driving, the system intentionally restricts users from scrolling through full, historical chat threads while the vehicle is in operation.

Despite the safety limitations, the interface offers crucial context at a glance. The CarPlay display clearly indicates which chats are muted, which are pinned, and the exact timestamp of the last sent message. Additionally, users can access detailed contact information, review their recent call history, and quickly pull up their favorite contacts for hands-free communication.

Since the application is still in its testing phase, it is not yet available on the public App Store. If you want to try the new dashboard experience early, follow these steps:
