Tesla is deploying software update 2026.38.3 over the air, bringing a mix of seasonal entertainment and practical features to eligible vehicles. The release includes a festive Halloween Mode, home backup power capabilities, and important security fixes.
Halloween Mode and Visuals
For the holiday, the update turns the vehicle into a haunted house on wheels. It adds a ghost costume to the car’s avatar, a haunting light show, Halloween wraps, and a custom lock sound. A Trick or Treat mode plays spooky sounds and flickers the lights when visitors approach, while a chilling Photobooth mode and remote voice capabilities via the Tesla app let owners frighten people by having the car repeat their words in its own voice. Tesla jokes that side effects may include “neighbourhood notoriety.”
The driving visuals with Full Self-Driving also receive a seasonal change, showing cars on the road in shades of green, pedestrians as skeletons, and the owner's car dressed as a ghoul. The update replaces the need for owners to manually decorate their cars, making it easy to have fun with kids when they roll by for trick-or-treating.
Powershare Home Backup
Tesla’s energy division announced that Powershare Home Backup is now available for new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles ordered after October 1, 2026, when paired with a Powerwall 3. This extends home backup by more than two days, while Cybertruck owners can stretch the backup by up to three days, turning the vehicle into a reserve battery for the house. However, eligibility is limited; the fine print notes the feature is only available in the United States and Puerto Rico.
Emergency Drive Away and Security
According to Tesla North, update 2026.38.3 introduces an Emergency Drive Away feature exclusively in the United States. Announced earlier in the month by Tesla’s charging division, the function allows drivers to shift into Drive without first unplugging from a Supercharger to leave quickly in dangerous situations. The release notes also confirm the update contains important security fixes and improvements, following version 2026.38, which brought updated visuals to legacy Model 3 and Model Y cars.
Availability for Older Models
Like the summer release that brought FSD 14 Lite to Canada, update 2026.38.3 arrives over the air, allowing eligible cars to install the new features without visiting a service centre. It remains to be seen how many of these additions will make their way to older Tesla vehicles powered by Intel chips for their infotainment centres.
