The newly released TDM Neo Hybrid Headphones offer a rare two-in-one design, functioning as both a standard pair of wireless headphones and a compact portable speaker. Available now for $249, the device features a unique twisting mechanism that allows it to collapse into a handheld speaker, eliminating the need to carry two separate audio devices.
Twisting Design and Dual Drivers
At first glance, the device resembles a traditional headset, featuring a leather-like headband and round over-ear cups fitted with memory foam cushions. The earpieces can fold and turn at different angles, but instead of simply folding to collapse, the headband twists into a compact spiral shape that fits comfortably in the hand. This twisting action allows it to shrink down to a highly portable size.
To support both listening modes, each ear cup houses two sets of 40mm drivers: one on the inside and one on the outside. In speaker mode, the device pumps audio through the outer drivers, effectively turning it into a five-watt loudspeaker. Users can activate speaker mode manually even while wearing the headset, or set it to switch automatically. When automated, the device plays through the inner drivers in its expanded headphone form and switches to the outer speaker drivers when collapsed.
Battery Life and Connectivity
The TDM Neo Hybrid Headphones connect via Bluetooth and support multipoint pairing, allowing users to link two devices, such as a phone and a TV, simultaneously. While the exact battery capacity is undisclosed, the company claims the headset delivers up to 200 hours of playback in headphones mode and over 16 hours in speaker mode. The device does not feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), which contributes to the extended battery life.
For charging, a USB-C port provides fast charging capabilities, yielding eight hours of playback from a five-minute charge. The headset also includes a 3.5mm slot and comes with an AUX cable for wired listening when battery power is depleted.
A Versatile Audio Solution
The TDM Neo Hybrid Headphones cater to users who want the flexibility of private listening and room-filling sound in a single package. While the lack of ANC might deter buyers seeking noise isolation, the massive 200-hour battery life and seamless twist-to-speaker transition make it a compelling option for everyday use.
