GM Energy Pass Eliminates EV Charging App Clutter With Unified Network

General Motors is eliminating the biggest headache of electric vehicle ownership with the launch of Energy Pass, a unified platform that consolidates hundreds of thousands of public charging ports into a single app. Announced at the 2026 Empower event, the new system allows GM EV drivers to ditch the clutter of multiple network apps and manage all charging sessions directly through their existing vehicle apps.

The fragmented EV charging experience - where drivers often juggle five different apps and accounts on a single road trip - is being replaced by a one-stop solution. Energy Pass integrates directly into the MyChevrolet, MyCadillac, and MyGMC apps. It provides a single login and a unified payment method across major networks.

At launch, supported networks include Tesla Supercharger, IONNA, Electrify America, and ChargePoint, with EVgo support arriving soon. Together, these networks cover nearly 70% of all DC fast chargers in the US.

Maximizing the Energy Pass Experience

  • Live Network Mapping: View participating stations, real-time availability, pricing, and connector types (CCS or NACS) directly in the app.
  • Unified Billing: Track charging history, view total price breakdowns, and manage receipts from a single dashboard.
  • Exclusive Discounts: Users receive a 10% discount at IONNA charging locations, with more network perks expected in the future.

Alongside Energy Pass, GM is rolling out Plug and Charge capabilities to further reduce friction at the station. Drivers simply pull up to a compatible terminal and plug in their vehicle. The EV securely identifies itself to the charger, verifies the account, and automatically processes the payment in the background without requiring a phone or credit card.

Plug and Charge is currently live at IONNA Rechargeries and ChargePoint locations. For GM’s upcoming NACS-native vehicles, Plug and Charge support at Tesla Superchargers will be enabled later via an over-the-air (OTA) update. Drivers can toggle this feature on or off for individual networks within the Energy Pass settings.

The End of App Fatigue

GM’s strategy with Energy Pass directly targets the most significant barrier to mainstream EV adoption: public charging anxiety. By securing partnerships that cover 70% of the US fast-charging infrastructure, GM is effectively neutralizing the software advantage previously held exclusively by Tesla.

The 10% discount at IONNA stations also signals a shift toward automaker-subsidized charging perks to build brand loyalty. If GM can maintain seamless uptime across these disparate networks, Energy Pass will transform the MyChevrolet and MyCadillac apps from basic utility tools into essential daily drivers for EV owners.
