Neurable One Headphones Pack 12 EEG Sensors to Track Focus and Fatigue
100%

Neurable has launched the Neurable One, a pair of premium wireless headphones that integrate 12 EEG sensors to monitor brain activity. Designed to function as everyday active noise-canceling (ANC) headphones, the device tracks focus and fatigue to provide real-time biofeedback.

How the EEG tracking works

After a decade of research, the company - which spun out of a University of Michigan brain-interface lab in 2015 - built the product entirely in-house. The headphones feature 12 fabric-based electroencephalogram (EEG) sensors woven directly into the ear cushion padding, with six electrodes per ear. This design captures electrical brain signals without the gels or probes typically required in traditional lab settings.

Neurable uses signal-processing algorithms backed by over 80 patents to filter out interference from walking, jaw movement, music, and the headphones' own ANC. The sensors record at a 16-bit resolution and 125 Hz. The company stresses that the technology does not read thoughts, words, images, or moods.

App features and biofeedback

The companion app, available for iOS and Android, translates electrical activity patterns into a biofeedback loop. During work sessions, it displays real-time Focus scores and Brain Battery metrics. If your attention drifts, the app subtly shifts the audio, and it suggests a break when signals indicate fatigue. Users can also perform a one-minute, eyes-closed check-in before and after events like drinking a second coffee, a poor night's sleep, or spending time away from the desk.

The app tracks eight metrics in total, including Load, Sleepiness, and Alpha Peak Frequency. These metrics are benchmarked against a user's personal baseline rather than a population average, with weekly and monthly reports highlighting long-term trends.

Audio specs and battery life

For standard listening, the Neurable One features 40-mm beryllium drivers, active noise cancellation, and an ambient mode supported by six microphones. It includes Bluetooth 5.2 with multipoint connectivity, alongside AAC and aptX decoding. Battery life reaches up to 22 hours for regular playback, which drops to 12 hours when EEG tracking is active. A 15-minute USB-C quick charge provides two hours of use.

Pricing and availability

The Neurable One is priced at $499 and is currently available only in the US. While the first 700 units are already shipping, new orders placed today are estimated to take four to eight weeks, arriving sometime in November. The headphones include a one-year warranty.

As with other wearable wellness technology, Neurable notes that the device is not a medical product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, or monitor any condition. The company also states that it does not sell brain data or use it for advertising.
