Genshin Impact Version Luna VIII Takes Players to the Moon and Resurrects Sandrone

Genshin Impact Version Luna VIII Takes Players to the Moon and Resurrects Sandrone

The highly anticipated Genshin Impact Version Luna VIII update, officially titled "Song of the Welkin Moon: Scherzo - Sunny Summer Fontinalia," is set to launch on July 1 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and mobile platforms. Developer miHoYo is pushing the boundaries of the game's universe by allowing players to permanently leave the skies of Teyvat to explore the Frost Moon. The update also marks the dramatic return of Sandrone, who sacrificed herself during the battle of Nod-Krai.

Sandrone, the Seventh of the Fatui Harbingers, makes an unexpected return in this version as a 5-star Cryo Claymore wielder. Now that she has returned, the truth behind her resurrection is set to be revealed.

The Frost Moon introduces a vast, permanent new region featuring a luminous lunar sea, a suspended space station, and ancient dragon ruins. To navigate this extraterrestrial terrain, players will utilize a mysterious ancient power to manipulate local gravity. To support this massive expansion, both the Teyvat and moon maps are receiving a real-time layered display feature, significantly improving vertical exploration.

Mastering the Stellar-Conduct Reaction

Version Luna VIII fundamentally alters the combat meta by introducing Stellar-Conduct, a brand-new Cryo-Electro elemental reaction. When triggered, the surrounding area transforms into a Polestar Field. This field absorbs excess Cryo and Electro energy, converting it into powerful buffs that increase Stellar-Conduct, Cryo, and Electro damage for all characters within its radius, while simultaneously shredding opponents' Physical Resistance.

Sandrone's kit is entirely built around maximizing this new reaction. In combat, she commands an autonomous construct named Fagio, which deals Stellar-Conduct damage with every Charged Attack while accumulating Decoding Power. Players must actively manage this power using her Elemental Skill to maneuver through the Polestar Field and prevent Fagio from overloading. Her Elemental Burst unleashes a devastating artillery bombardment, where all beam damage inside the field is calculated as Stellar-Conduct damage.

Event Banners and the Fontinalia Film Festival

Players looking to optimize their Primogem spending will need to plan around a stacked banner schedule. The update brings back fan-favorite characters alongside new additions, while the flagship summer event offers substantial free rewards.

  • Phase 1 Banners: Features the debut of Sandrone alongside a rerun for Citlali.
  • Phase 2 Banners: Features the highly anticipated return of Columbina and the Raiden Shogun.
  • Summer Event Rewards: The Fontinalia Film Festival event allows players to manage an aquarium aboard the Wingalet. Completing the event unlocks Charlotte for free, along with a brand-new outfit for her.

Beyond the main festival, the Miliastra Wonderland is receiving a summer-themed lobby update. Players can earn free Prismatic Crystals and an elegant 4-star set by completing activities. The game remains available on PC via the Epic Games Store, iOS via the App Store, and Android via Google Play.

Expanding the Meta Beyond Teyvat

The introduction of the Stellar-Conduct reaction late in the game's lifecycle is a brilliant strategic move by miHoYo. By creating a dedicated Polestar Field that buffs specific elements and reduces Physical Resistance, the developers are indirectly buffing older Cryo and Electro characters who have fallen out of the meta, giving players a reason to dust off their legacy units. Sandrone acts as the ultimate enabler for this new playstyle, making her a must-pull for players heavily invested in those elements.

Furthermore, taking the narrative to the Frost Moon signals a massive tonal shift for Genshin Impact. Moving from traditional high fantasy into sci-fi territory with space stations and gravity manipulation proves the engine can handle drastically different environmental mechanics. This extraterrestrial expansion not only answers long-standing lore questions about the ancient dragon race but also sets a new, highly ambitious standard for future region designs.
