BYD is aggressively expanding its luxury footprint beyond rugged SUVs with the reveal of the Fang Cheng Bao Formula S electric sedan and the sleek Formula X sports car. Unveiled at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, this strategic pivot signals the automaker's intent to dominate the high-end performance EV market. For automotive enthusiasts and prospective EV buyers, this marks a significant shift as BYD's personalization-focused sub-brand transitions from off-roaders to aerodynamic supercars.

Fang Cheng Bao, BYD's fifth sub-brand following Denza, Yangwang, Dynasty, and Ocean, initially built its reputation on the Bao 5 and Bao 8 off-roaders, alongside the family-oriented Tai 3 and Tai 7 SUVs. Now, the brand is leaving the dirt trails for the racetrack to compete directly with legacy performance manufacturers.

The Fang Cheng Bao Formula S: Carbon Fiber and Cheetah Aesthetics

The new Fang Cheng Bao Formula S series is designed to create an entirely new category of personalized sedans. BYD announced that the lineup will be available in three distinct configurations: the standard Formula S three-box sedan, the Formula S GT shooting brake, and the extended Formula SL three-box sedan.

Each model boasts imposing dimensions, measuring over 5 meters in length and 2 meters in width, with a massive 3-meter wheelbase. To maximize performance and reduce weight, the vehicles feature a full carbon fiber body. The exterior design, dubbed the golden ratio body, adopts a low-slung hunting leopard stance.

This aggressive look is further highlighted by Cheetah Eyes headlights and Infinity Ring taillights, drawing visual comparisons to European supercars from Lamborghini and McLaren. The first Formula S sedan is officially scheduled to launch in the third quarter of 2026.

Leaked Cabin Details and the Formula X Supercar

While BYD officially kept the interior under wraps at the show, leaked images shared by ThinkerCar on X revealed a highly premium, sporty cabin. The dashboard is dominated by a large central floating infotainment screen, complemented by a smaller driver display and tactile physical buttons.

The leaked photos also showcase a three-spoke steering wheel, dual wireless phone chargers, and high-end red seating that amplifies the sporty aesthetic. Xiong Tianbo, General Manager of Fang Cheng Bao, confirmed that the production models will feature an all-new intelligent cabin designed for maximum driving comfort.

Sitting at the top of this new lineup is the Formula X, a two-seat production sports car that BYD claims is currently 80% identical to the real car. This flagship supercar is expected to hit the market sometime in 2027, serving as the halo vehicle for the brand's new performance era.

Redefining the Luxury EV Hierarchy

BYD's decision to push Fang Cheng Bao into the supercar and luxury sedan segments is a calculated strike against established European legacy brands. By utilizing a full carbon fiber body and offering three distinct body styles right out of the gate, BYD is proving it can scale high-end manufacturing just as efficiently as its budget-friendly models.

The aggressive timeline, targeting a Q3 2026 launch for the Formula S, shows that BYD is not just building concept cars for auto shows; they are rapidly commercializing premium EVs. If the Formula X delivers on its supercar promises by 2027, Fang Cheng Bao could successfully shed its exclusive off-road image and become a comprehensive luxury powerhouse.
