Hiive Rebrands to Clarity, Launching a Full-Stack Private Market Platform for Venture Capital
100%

Hiive has officially rebranded as Clarity, transforming from a secondary transaction marketplace into a comprehensive financial services platform for highly valued private companies. The Vancouver-based company aims to solve the fragmentation and opacity of private venture capital markets, where an increasing share of innovation economy value creation now occurs before companies go public.

Since its commercial launch in 2022, the platform has facilitated more than $6 billion in closed transaction volume and executed trades across the stock of over 400 private companies. Operating regulated activities through Clarity Capital Limited - a FINRA member, SEC-registered alternative trading system (ATS), and Canadian exempt market dealer - the firm has also generated over $2 billion in assets under management through its in-house investment funds business.

"Markets cannot function without clarity," said Sim Desai, Founder and CEO of Clarity. "When participants understand pricing, process, and opportunity, confidence follows. And when confidence grows, capital flows."

Five New Platform Capabilities

To support its broader ambition, Clarity has launched a significantly expanded platform designed to help institutions deploy capital and manage liquidity. The update introduces five major capabilities:

  • Funds Marketplace: Helps investors discover opportunities aligned with their investment thesis and access a resale market for existing fund interests.
  • Deeper In-Platform Insights: Provides visibility into pricing, supply, demand, and company valuation to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Revamped Institutional Interface: Enables large investors to anonymously aggregate smaller listings while reducing signaling risk.
  • Institutional-Grade Execution: Streamlines documentation, approvals, and settlement once investors are matched with opportunities.
  • Portfolio Management: Allows investors and advisors to track their private holdings in a single, centralized location.

Sophisticated investors don’t just need access to private markets - they need technology built around the way they work.

The Institutional Shift in Private Capital

The evolution from Hiive to Clarity highlights a structural shift in how tech startups and private firms handle liquidity. With companies staying private significantly longer, the traditional IPO is no longer the sole liquidity event for early investors and employees. Secondary markets are stepping in to fill the void, but they have historically lacked the infrastructure required by massive institutional players.

By building an institutional-grade interface that explicitly masks signaling risk - a major deterrent for large funds trying to aggregate smaller shares without driving up prices - Clarity is positioning itself as a primary infrastructure layer for the private innovation economy. If the platform can successfully standardize pricing and execution in an inherently opaque asset class, it could unlock billions in sidelined institutional capital that previously viewed private secondary markets as too fragmented to navigate efficiently.
