After nearly six years of absolute silence, Genshin Impact players finally have concrete evidence that the massive action RPG is heading to Nintendo hardware. A newly discovered datamine reveals internal account linking features, reigniting hopes for a release on the Nintendo Switch ecosystem.
The breakthrough comes from leaker Lunar Kuroo, whose findings were shared on Reddit by user Animegamingnerd. According to the datamined internal builds, HoYoverse has added a backend option to bind HoYoverse and Nintendo accounts. While not an official announcement, this backend integration is the strongest signal yet that the developer is actively preparing the game for Nintendo's platform.
Genshin Impact originally launched in September 2020 for PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile devices, with a Nintendo Switch port announced shortly after. However, the developer went completely silent on the project, leading most of the community to assume it was quietly canceled. Reacting to the leak, Reddit user Nisha_the_lawbringer noted that because the port was announced over five years ago with zero updates since, this datamine is "pretty huge" for the player base.
The exact target console remains the biggest question. As pointed out by user Ebo87, HoYoverse likely struggled to get the demanding Unity engine game running smoothly on the original Switch hardware. With Nintendo having released its next-generation console in 2025, a release on the Nintendo Switch 2 seems far more plausible. The newer hardware is already proving capable of running heavy titles like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, providing the necessary power for Genshin Impact's sprawling open world.
The Hardware Reality Behind the Delay
The six-year delay for a Nintendo port was almost certainly a hardware bottleneck rather than a lack of interest. Genshin Impact has grown exponentially in file size and graphical complexity since 2020, making the original Switch's aging Tegra X1 chip and limited RAM a massive hurdle for HoYoverse. By shifting focus to the Nintendo Switch 2, the developer avoids compromising the game's visual fidelity and performance.
Furthermore, launching on Nintendo's newest hardware allows HoYoverse to tap into a fresh, highly engaged player base. This creates a lucrative new revenue stream just as the game enters its mature lifecycle phase, ensuring its dominance in the gacha market continues well into the next console generation.
