Google's Gemini Surpasses 750 Million Monthly Users, Closing Gap with ChatGPT

Google has announced a major milestone for its Gemini AI chatbot, revealing that the platform now boasts over 750 million monthly active users according to the company's fourth-quarter 2025 earnings report. This figure represents a dramatic acceleration in user adoption, with Gemini growing from 650 million monthly active users just one quarter earliera gain of 100 million users in a single three-month period.

The rapid expansion underscores the intensifying competition in the generative AI space, where Google is positioning Gemini as a formidable challenger to established players. While Gemini's growth is impressive, the platform still trails ChatGPT, which maintains approximately 810 million monthly active users as of late 2025. Meta AI, another significant competitor, has reported nearly 500 million monthly users, placing it well behind both Gemini and ChatGPT.

Much of Gemini's recent momentum stems from the December 2025 launch of Gemini 3, Google's most advanced AI model to date. CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted the new model as a "positive driver" for the company's growth, emphasizing that the platform now delivers responses with "unprecedented levels of depth and nuance." The launch has generated significantly higher engagement per user, particularly among those utilizing the AI Mode features.

Beyond consumer adoption, Gemini is gaining substantial traction in the enterprise sector. Google reports that more than 120,000 enterprises now use Gemini, including global powerhouses such as Airbus, Honeywell, Salesforce, and Shopify. The company has also sold over 8 million paid seats of Gemini Enterprise, its dedicated enterprise AI platform launched just four months prior, to more than 2,800 companies. These enterprise deployments processed over 5 billion customer interactions in Q4 alone, representing 65% year-over-year growth.

Google's infrastructure investments are scaling rapidly to support this growth. The company's first-party AI models, including Gemini, now process over 10 billion tokens per minute through direct API usage by customersa significant increase from 7 billion tokens per minute in the previous quarter. This expansion reflects both the growing demand for AI services and Google's commitment to maintaining competitive performance against rivals like OpenAI.

To further strengthen its AI capabilities, Google recently introduced Ironwood, its latest-generation TPU AI accelerator chip, designed to compete directly with Nvidia's dominant position in AI hardware. Additionally, Google Antigravity, a new development platform powered by Gemini 3 that enables AI agents to autonomously plan and execute complex software tasks, has already attracted over 1.5 million weekly active users since its launch just over two months ago.

Gemini's expansion is contributing to Alphabet's overall financial success. The parent company surpassed $400 billion in annual revenue for the first time, with Q4 2025 revenue reaching $113.8 billionan 18% year-over-year increase. Google Cloud revenue grew 48% year-over-year to $17.7 billion, driven significantly by increased demand for AI services and infrastructure.

The company is also leveraging Gemini to enhance its advertising business. Google executives indicated that AI will bring "significant improvements" across three critical marketing areas: ad quality through improved query understanding, ad tools with greater accuracy, and AI-powered user experiences that better match advertisements and products to the right audiences.

While Gemini has achieved remarkable growth, the competitive landscape remains intense. The platform's 750 million monthly active users represent a 142% increase in activity since March 2025, making it the fastest-growing large language model on the market. However, maintaining this momentum will require continued innovation and investment.

Google's strategy extends beyond the consumer app. The Gemini API now has approximately 2.4 million active usersa 118% increase from 1.1 million users in March 2025indicating strong adoption among developers building AI-powered applications. This developer ecosystem could prove crucial for long-term growth and competitive differentiation.
